I was dressed (with two sports bras - shout out to all my big boobie sisters), ready, and on the treadmill, but I couldn't muster up the energy to run. WTF? I was doing so well. I've run everyday except yesterday (my scheduled rest day). In the spirit of staying positive, I'm not going to beat myself up... just going to aim for a nice long run first thing tomorrow (love when hubbie is home in the mornings!). I'll even give myself credit for not just doing nothing - I ended up walking at a good pace with an 8% incline. At least I worked up a little sweat and burned calories.
So, let me ask you, what motivates you? (This can be about running, or life in general.)
P/S I posted some recipes (link above). Let me know if you try any. More to come...

Puke
Does the title of my post make you gag? It makes me gag! Ugh, my poor baby got sick last night (hence no post yesterday). He had already been asleep for about an hour and woke up puking. I felt so bad for him. I also felt bad for myself because I can clean poop all day (yes, that is gross!) but I cannot stomach puke. Ick, I need to stop talking about this. He's doing a lot better today and I'm hoping he'll have a peaceful rest.
I did manage 2.5 miles yesterday and 2.5 today. I hate doing back-to-back runs during the week, but I know I won't have time to run tomorrow. My co-worker joined me on the treadmill today. She was a track start in high school, so running is natural for her. She claimed that she was a short-distance runner and didn't think she could "hang" with me for 2+ miles. Well, we get started and I look over at homegirl and she is cruising on the treadmill! At 1.5 miles, I turn to her to see how she's doing and she wasn't event sweating that much! My instinct was to either (a) push her off the treadmill, or (b) kick up her speed to shake her up! I did neither - just smiled and when we got back to the privacy of our office, I yelled at her for faking me out about how she didn't know if she could hang! LOL I love her and she is awesome, so no hard feelings... well, maybe a little and a lot of jealousy!
Okay, I hope everyone is feeling healthy and that 2011 is off to a great start! My question of the day is would you rather clean poop or puke?

Vacation!
I'm hip-hip-hooraying today! For the past 5 years, my husband and I have been saving all our "points" (the stuff that adds up when you use credit card or fly) and we finally cashed it in for a vacation! The three of us (hubbie, baby, and me) are heading out on a cruise at the end of January. It is a 5-Day Caribbean cruise with flight included all for the hefty cost of $45 in processing fees. Yoooohoooo! The only downside is that I have a fear of water. I don't swim and driving on bridges over bodies of water make me nauseous. So why the heck did we book a cruise? I have no freakin clue... it's probably because so many people have told us what a great time they've had on cruises and how family-friendly the environment is... wish me luck!
After booking the trip, I wondered if there were running cruises and sure enough there is! I found this site: http://www.cruisetorun.com/. Anyone ever been?
Speaking of running, I got in 2.5 miles on my lunch break today - yay! I was really dreading having to run at night. Once I've put in a full day of work, picked-up baby, cooked dinner, bathed baby, and put baby to sleep, I am totally wiped out and usually cannot muster the energy to hop on the treadmill. Luckily, work will be slow over the next couple of weeks so that I can get in lunchtime runs :)_I updated my widget on dailymile.com but it is not updating on my blog. Is there something more I need to do than update it on the DailyMile website?
Okay, that is the post for today. Have a great night!

I Hate Mondays!
Mondays, suck, don't they? I want to hear an "I love Monday" story... who out there loves Mondays and why?
It was my first day back at work after an entire week off, which is why I'm boo-hoo-ing. I enjoy my job, but staying home and watching my son figure out the world is so much better. In this economy, I am grateful that I have a job and one that I enjoy, so I will snap out of it and suck it up!
Today was a rest from running day. I did strength training on Wii Fit. The alternate title for my post was going to be "I Love Wii" but I went the more negative title (bad, I need to be more positive 2011). The goal for tomorrow is a run at lunch.
I'm looking for some new quick healthy recipes (snacks, lunch, and/or dinner). What's your favorite recipe?
Okay, that's my boring post for the day. Have a great night everyone!

Hello 2011!
First, running :) 2011 is off to a great running start thanks to my beloved sneakers (still need a name for my new sneakers...)! I got in a 2.5mi run yesterday and 3mi run today. Both were first thing in the morning on my treadmill and I wish I would have waited for the afternoon because it is another 50-something degree day! I don't want to know where this beautiful weather is coming from, but I hope it will stay. Cold weather and I don't get along. My body aches, it hurts to breathe, and the gloomy days are so depressing. I've never been to Arizona, but I think I may have lived there in a previous life because from what I've heard about Arizona, it has my ideal weather.
So, I'm doing that thing again where I set some crazy goal so that I don't have to think about what's happening in my life. The goal is a half-marathon on April 2nd and the "thing" I'm trying to avoid is that January marks a year of trying to have a second baby, which means I go in for "testing" in a couple of weeks. I'm sorry for the heavy topic on a Sunday, but one of my goals for this blog is to put sh*t out there in hopes of working through my issues. I get into the same cycle, "must have a second baby" thoughts enter my mind and I haven't yet really thought about whether or not I want to have a second (it's everyone going "you know, it's not fair to your son if you don't give him a sibling"). Even in the year of trying without success, I still just focus on the "must" and not think about the "want". Much of my worry about having another one is finances (I've posted before about growing up poor and I don't want the same for my child (or children)). I keep thinking that if we lived in a less-expensive state, finances would be better, but as they say "the grass is always greener," right? So... for now, we'll see what the "lady doctor" has to say and try to relax and not stress. My heart aches for all the women (and couples) out there who have fertility problems, including one of my very good friends. She believes there's a epidemic with all the fertility problems. I did some Googling (hate/love all the information out there). Did you know there is something called "Second-time Infertility? It is when a woman has a child and then cannot have anymore because of sudden infertility. And did you know that Johnson & Johnson baby soap has been linked to infertility in males because it increases levels of estrogen? AND did you know that Soy increased levels of estrogen and that messes with fertility, too? CRAZY!!!
Okay, back to running... the half-marathon is on April 2, 2011. I haven't run a half-marathon (or more than 3 miles) since my first half (April 2007). So, as you see, a bit crazy since I am not in half-marathon shape. Nonetheless, April gives me time to get there. The half is in NYC - love the City! Anyone have their eye on that half and planning to run?
Thanks for letting me vent and I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Happy New Year!
For the past few years (ever since I had my son), New Year's Eve has always been a day when I think about my childhood and wonder if I am as good as a mom to my son as my mother was to me. I've heard the same sentiment from many women - they develop a whole new respect for their mom once they have children. (Disclaimer: I understand that not everyone has this feeling and that not all mothers are the same. My heart goes out to all those who have had troubled childhoods - I am with you on that one, especially those who did not have a parent(s).)
The respect for mom has always been there, but now that I have a child, I realize just how much she did for me and my sister. I don't want to call what she did "sacrifices" because again, I now realize that what we do for our children is not sacrifice. Our decisions are just decisions. We weigh the options and act. How she raised my sister and me on first no salary (when my dad left us) and then on welfare and then on a $10,000 annual salary still baffles me. It certainly explains why my sister and I have had jobs since we were 13 years old (we all helped with the bills) and why we ran the oven to warm the apartment instead of the furnace.
I want to keep this post merry in the spirit of the New Year, so I'll digress from my childhood and turn to the future. I read Terri's post that she had "goals" and not "resolutions". So, here are my goals for 2011:
(1)Work on relationships with my family (work harder to see my mom more often, spend more quality time with my son, work on my marriage, and really talk to my sister)
(2) Work on work (send out at least 5 manuscripts (yes, I live in the world of publish or perish), submit 2 new grants, be more consistent with student follow-up)
(3) Stay committed to running (at least three 5Ks and one half-marathon, do a destination run)
I think that's it... I want to keep 2011 simple, because 2010 certainly was not. There's that voice in the back of my mind nagging me... "what would you do if you knew you could not fail?" that is bugging me to write one more resolution (oops, I mean goal) that stretches me. So, my stretch of a goal is go back to therapy. I stopped because I thought I would fail myself and I was starting to dig too deep.
My question of the day for you is, what 2011 resolution would you make if you knew you could not fail?
Running update: no run today because I've been running 6 days straight. I was supposed to take a rest yesterday, but the new sneakers made me do it!

Sneakers!!!!!
All my life I have been searching for the right ONE. The one that would make me feel so good. The one that would take care of my body. The one that would give as much as I give. The one that was in it for the long haul. And, today, ladies and gentlemen, I finally found the ONE and he goes by the name Nike Free!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love these sneakers so much that I've decided to give them a gender (male) and am searching for the perfect name... what shall I name my new loves? Please leave comment with your suggestion - tell me name and why. Also, let me know what sneakers you are rocking (wearing) and why they are comfortable - no I'm not thinking of cheating on my new sneakers, but I'd like to know what other good running sneakers are out there.
